Art fans in for an Easter show treat

AN Easter art exhibition opens in Lockerbie today, running all weekend.

It will feature a range of styles and work from artists living locally.

The line up has been put together by Lockerbie Art and includes John James Park MSc, who lives in Annan and has sold his abstract pieces in galleries and Harrods and exhibited at Kirkcudbright Art Festival in 2019.

By day, an engineering manager at DS Smith, he enjoys painting alfresco and cites his influences as ancient history and astronomy,

A massive cityscape of Edinburgh will be the centrepiece of John’s display this weekend.

Fiona Riviere’s passion for art took off during her schooldays at Lockerbie Academy and she later completed an art and design course at Cumbria College, followed by a degree in 3D design.

She is behind the Gateway sculptures on the A7 into Langholm, items in the Globe Inn Courtyard in Dumfries, and the Broken Angel at Eskrigg Reserve.

There will be a chance to watch Fiona, who now splits her time between Lockerbie and France, in action this weekend.

Also featured will be Sean Watson from Dumfries, whose stag painting is pictured above.

Sean, who is autistic, started drawing and painting aged four because he is almost deaf and would use images to explain what he wanted. He has a great love for painting, especially animals, and was part of a recent exhibition in Castle Douglas.

Returning to show again in Lockerbie is Ben Petrie-Butler, who works in oil and acrylic.

A tattooist to trade, his paintings are vibrant and surreal with a dreamlike quality.

He will also be demonstrating his technique over the weekend.

The free event is sponsored by Lockerbie Community Council and the Salvation Army and takes place at the Coffee Pot in Station Road from Good Friday to Easter Monday, 12-5 pm each day.
