Arts festival launches

THIS year’s Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival will be the ‘most ambitious’ to date say the organisers.

The line up has now been revealed and includes ten days of international award-winning theatre; musicianship from around the world; comedians and street performers and the very best of the region’s own performing artists.

Highlights range from the Scottish Ensemble, Scots trad singer Robyn Stapleton, the Universities of Scotland Symphony Orchestra, the Tinderbox Orchestra and Scottish Opera, to Blazin’ Fiddles, Canadian singer-songwriter Lizanne Knott, stand up by Mark Nelson and Micky Bartlett, workshops from Ruth E Cockburn and Karine Polwart’s Wind Resistance.

Theatre lovers will enjoy Phil Hardie’s Welcome My Son, Emily Carding’s version of Richard III and Alan Bisset’s Moira Monologues.

The various performances will take place in venues right across the area.

Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival is in its 38th year and will run between May 26 and June 4.
