RAYDALE Park was the place to be for football fans on Tuesday night as Gretna FC 2008 entertained neighbours Annan Athletic in a pre-season friendly fixture.
A healthy crowd turned out to get a look at how the sides are shaping up ahead of their respective seasons in the Lowland League and League Two.
Both teams’ line-ups were littered with trialists as managers Vinnie Parker, Gretna, and Wullie Gibson, Annan, look to strengthen their squads.
An entertaining opening 45 ended with Athletic a goal up thanks to former Gretna man Ryan Muir.
Josh Dixon doubled the visitors’ lead late on before Black and Whites defender Stuart Douglas pulled one back for the hosts.
However, Annan made sure of victory in the final minutes when a trialist found the net.
The Anvils travel to Kendal Town this Saturday for another friendly test, while their league campaign begins away to Bonnyrigg Rose on Saturday July 26.
Meanwhile, Athletic jump into competitive action two weeks earlier. They host Forfar at Galabank in the Scottish League Cup group stage on July 12.
