ANNAN Athletic Ladies took home the derby bragging rights following a 2-0 win away to Gretna FC in the SWFL South on Sunday.
There was a minute’s silence prior to the match, along with every player wearing a purple ribbon, in tribute to Elaine McCubbin.
Both sides threatened in the first half but neither was able to break the deadlock.
A regroup and team talk brought Annan out with a different vision and some improved passing techniques.
They managed to open the scoring almost straight away on 46 minutes through Jessica Wallace.
The visitors continued to press the well organised Gretna ladies.
And a beautiful assist from Rhian Williams gave Phoebe Thorburn an opportunity which she could not miss. She made no mistake, hitting the net to secure a 2-0 win.
