Attractions ready for Doors Open Day

VENUES across the region are taking part in this year's Doors Open Day this weekend.

The festival offers free access to venues across the country each September, celebrating Scotland’s heritage and built environment.

Organised by the Scottish Civic Trust, the festival also gives people the chance to visit buildings that are normally closed to the public.

One such building is Dumfries Sheriff Court, which will be open for tours and visits on Saturday.

A number of museums are taking part this year, including the Savings Bank Museum in Ruthwell, John Paul Jones Museum at Kirkbean, Moffat Museum and Dumfries Museum and Camera Obscura.

Other attractions taking part this weekend include Gracefield Arts Centre and the Theatre Royal in Dumfries, Dunscore Heritage Centre, Kirkdale Sawmill at Carsluith, Mill on the Fleet at Gatehouse of Fleet and Whithorn Trust and Roundhouse.
