THE Annan 1st XV were beaten 48-20 in Oban in their last away match of the league season on Saturday.
It was a fairly young Annan squad who left Violetbank at 7.30 am in the morning as the coaches continue to look towards next season.
Earlier in the season at Violetbank, Annan had comfortably won this encounter but in recent years up at Oban, the team have struggled.
It was really a game of two halves as in the first half Annan played their usual running rugby and Ewan Campbell crossed the whitewash twice.
But the home side also scored twice, with one converted, to lead 12-10 at the break.
After the interval the result was still in the balance. Oban had extended their lead to 29-20 but Annan had just scored and were looking to get that fourth try and perhaps two bonus points or even the win.
Ryan Glass had scored the third Annan try with Josh Whiteside converting to go along with an earlier penalty.
But Oban, spurred on by their home support found an extra gear as Annan chased the game. They ran in three tries in the last 15 to take the win 48-20.
