TWO bakeries have taken prizes in the prestigious Scottish Baker of the Year Awards in Glasgow at the weekend.
At the celebratory gala, T A Francis and Sons in Annan took home a slew of different prizes, both regional and national.
Their GI Roll and their Chia Bread both won the Best in Region Gold Award, as well as the National Silver Award, and National Bronze Awards respectively.
Their Biscotti Cake, Macaroni Pie and Good Intentions won the Regional Silver Award, and their Ancient Grains won the Regional Bronze Award.
At the same time, Gretna Bakery won the Regional Bronze Award for their shortbread round in the biscuit category.
The competition is organised by Scottish Bakers, which supports and protects the interests of Scotland’s bakery trade, and it was once again hotly contested with bakers each asked to put forward up to 12 of their star products to be taste tested by 50 industry experts.
Scottish Baker of the Year Ambassador Mich Turner MBE said: “Each and every winner should be justifiably proud, and we hope that for every well deserved prize there is a corresponding business boost.
