Bakery on a roll at national awards

AN ANNAN bakery rose to the occasion to win a clutch of awards at the tenth Scottish Baker of the Year awards.

TA Francis & Son won gold for the best individual cake in the Edinburgh, Lothians and Central Region for their carrot cake; along with the national bronze and regional gold for steak bake; as well as national silver and regional silver for its chia bread.

They also won a regional bronze for their morning roll and a special bronze for the pain au raisin in the all-new vienoisserie category.

Contest organiser Alasdair Smith, of Scottish Bakers, said: “With 50 industry professionals on hand during our annual judging day to put each product through its paces, our winners can be justifiably proud of their achievements,

“We really do congratulate all of our winners and we thank the voting public for taking the time to vote for their favourite bakery business.”

And brother and sister Tom Francis and Marilla McMillan, who run the bakers are delighted at the success. Posting on Facebook, they thanked staff and customers and said: “Four regional and two national awards! Massive thank you to everyone here at the bakery for their efforts. I’m very proud to see that the quality of their work was recognised again this year at the Scottish Bakers Awards. And it couldn’t be done without the continued support from you guys too. What a good bunch.”
