Band in Xmas chart push

A DUMFRIES band has been mixing it with the musical big guns as their charity Christmas single rocked the charts.

The Lutras launched their catchy festive jingle ‘Give It Up For Christmas’ last Friday and it has proved to be a hit.

On the release day the track – from which all proceeds will be spilt between charities Music Venues Trust and Shelter – peaked at nine on the UK Itunes chart.

The Lutras drummer Finlay Maxwell said the reaction to the song so far has been “amazing”.

He said: “We’ve had a lot of great feedback from people and it’s always nice to see the feedback and people enjoying our music.

“Getting to number nine on release day was surreal. It has done better than we imagined so we were absolutely over the moon. I think once people started to see how well it was doing they kind of got on board and downloaded it as well.

“It’s really hard to stay up at the top so we really just need to try to push it as much as possible to get back. It’s hard to get people to download music nowadays when they can listen to it for free.”

Doonhamers and people from far afield have helped out too by sharing the track on social media.

This caught the attention of some mega stars including Full Monty and Trainspotting actor Robert Carlyle who also shared the song online.

Finlay added: “We’ve had a few people help promote it as well. Kyle Falconer, the frontman from The View, has helped share it on Twitter, as has Robert Carlyle who plays Francis Begbie in Trainspotting.

“Also, ex-Celtic and Scotland player Simon Donnelly, so it has been really nice to see these people get on board and help us get the song out there.”
