THE people of Dumfries and Galloway are being encouraged to celebrate St Andrew’s Day this year by carrying out an act of kindness.

On November 30, you could make time to speak to an elderly neighbour, hold the door open for someone, smile at a stranger, or put your loose change in a collection tin for the #onekindact campaign.

There are lots of other ideas at the onescotland.org website.

Europe Minister Ben Macpherson is backing the campaign and said: “St Andrew’s Day is a perfect opportunity for everyone in Scotland to celebrate our national day in an inclusive, compassionate, internationalist spirit, and to affirm the shared values that unite us.

“I would encourage everyone to carry out #onekindact this St Andrew’s Day, by either attending one of the many events taking place across the country or by engaging in an act of kindness of their own.

“Coming together to do one kind act to make someone’s day showcases our kindness, inclusivity and compassionate spirit to the world.”
