Region prepares for Storm Abigail

DUMFRIES and Galloway is preparing to be battered by winds up to 90mph as Storm Abigail heads for the country today.

Worst affected areas when the storm hits will be the North of Scotland, Western Isles and Northern Isles over Thursday night and Friday morning.

But there is a yellow ‘be aware’ warning covering the South West of Scotland with Abigail expected to bring heavy rain and gales with gusts between 60-70mph from late tomorrow afternoon into Friday morning.
Further north the warning has been upgraded to amber for Abigail, which is the first storm to be officially named by the Met Office,
Weather experts are keeping a close watch on the path of the storm which they say could change and there is still some uncertainty about the exact extent and timing of the strongest winds.
