There were 201 new positive tests recorded in the region over the last week, between Dec 29 (today) and Dec 22.
That’s higher than at any time during the height of the pandemic earlier this year.
And it brings the running total up to 1499, compared to 1298 a week ago.
In addition, the test positivity rate has risen and 4.6 per cent of all coronavirus tests carried out are now coming back positive.
However, only nine people are currently in hospital locally as a result of Covid-19.
NHS Dumfries and Galloway have expressed concern about a spike in cases in the Wigtownshire area and are also monitoring numbers in Lower Annandale.
