Biking family to raise cash for personal cause

A FAMILY from Dumfries is set to raise money for Crohns and Colitis UK in an 80-mile bike ride.

The Swan family, comprising mum Jen, dad Aitkin, son Greg, 21, and daughters Sophie,16, and Christine, 19, will be riding from Dumfries to Stranraer this weekend, taking in all minor roads.
To date the family has raised £1200 for the charity, but will be hoping to raise more before this weekend’s challenge.
The youngest member of the Swan family, Sophie, is a sufferer of Crohns disease, making this a charity close to home.
Crohns and colitis are bowel conditions that can cause ulceration.
Mum Jen Swan said: “With crohns it can affect anywhere in the digestive system.”
Looking to the weekend’s event, she added: “We have always cycled, but this is the biggest thing we have done.
“Raising awareness has always been something we have wanted to try and do, and now Sophie is well we feel this ride is coming at the right time.”
The weather is expected to be good, with isolated showers, so the family are hoping for a smooth run into Dumfries.
Daughter Sophie said: “I would like to raise lots of money for the charity to raise awareness.”
