Bird bid wins support

MOFFAT community workshop The Bird Box have been successful in a bid for community funding for new tools and equipment.

Chair of The Bird Box Community workshop, Anne Muir presented their bid at Tuesday’s meeting of Moffat and District Community Council meeting.

As a result, the socially inclusive group managed to secure £500 funding towards a larger industrial wood planer which will allow members to continue with their projects and accept new commissions.

Explaining the value of the group to the community council Anne Muir said: “It promotes social inclusivity, combats loneliness, improves the physical and mental health of our members but also female independence. A lot of girls have never handled tools, have never made anything or done any ‘do it yourself’.

“I’ve always worked in male orientated jobs, as an engineer by trade, and they’ve not had my opportunities and I hate to see people not able to do stuff because they’ve never been taught.”

The bid was passed unanimously by the community council, which Anne along with other members of The Bird Box were delighted with as they have also recently received a £138 donation from Moffat Soup and have been selected by the Co-op as one of their three local causes to support in 2022-23.
