Birthday book details club highlights

DUMFRIES Lions Club is celebrating its 40th anniversary by publishing a book detailing the club’s history.

The book, written by Lion Bill Walker, contains 23,000 words, 135 pages and 100 photographs and covers club activities and achievements at club and district level.

Dumfries Lions Club is a charity made up of 24 volunteers whose objectives are to encourage people to serve the community and promote the voluntary sector.

The book describes how the club has been involved in many iconic local fundraising events, including the Christmas tree sales, curling bonspiels, golf tournaments, the raft race and the duck race.

It also covers their support of many local events e.g. Dumfries Guid Nychburris, Moffat Gala and Sheep races, as well as Saturday Spectaculars in Annan and Dumfries.

Since its formation in 1981, the club has made a significant contribution to the local community and it is estimated that over half a million pounds has been raised for local charities and other good causes.

To obtain a copy of the book, priced £16, please contact any Dumfries Lions Club member or email: [email protected]
