Bishop visits Lockerbie

ALL Saints Episcopal Church in Lockerbie had a special visitor last week to help celebrate their 120th anniversary.

Bishop Kevin Pearson, of The United Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway, was in town on Sunday December 5 to lead a confirmation service and take part in the anniversary celebrations.

He confirmed Job Kegan Paul Job and Kevin Paul Job and blessed the church.

All Saints Rector Rev Dr Paul Singh, who welcomed the congregation, said: “By commemorating and celebrating the missional journey of the church the congregation lit 120 candles and cut the cake.”

The church is built of Corncockle sandstone and in the style of the Arts and Crafts movement. It is a splendid building, well maintained and set in its own grounds with a modern rectory, dating from 1992, on its east side.

Rev Singh added: “The congregation though small is dedicated and always anxious to welcome newcomers to the church. The church has full disabled access/toilet, ‘loop’ sound system, with a small kitchen/meeting room attached on the north side of the church.

“Pews were removed in 2016 and were replaced by 80 upholstered chairs. This gives flexibility to reorganise the seating to suit various types of activity, events and meetings.”
