Body in the burn

POLICE are investigating the discovery of a man's body this morning in the Dalbeattie Burn.

The grim discovery was made around 8 am at the David Street Bridge near a housing development alongside the Dalbeattie bypass.
Police have sealed off the area and plain clothes and CID officers are investigating the discovery of the body, which police have confirmed as being a male.
The bridge on the southern end of the town links the David Road housing development with the Glenshalloch houses on the other side of the burn and is used widely by townspeople.
The level of the burn in the area where the body was discovered has been fairly high in recent days after heavy rain and part of it in this area is tidal, although it is several miles from Solway.
One resident said: “We didn’t know anything about it until about half a dozen police vehicles arrived in the area.
“We believe it is a man’s body that has been found but we don’t know any more at the moment. A lot of people use the bridge but it is all cordoned off now by the police.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We can confirm that a body was discovered in the burn around 8 am this morning and police officers are investigating.
“At this stage we do not think that there are any suspicious circumstances but our enquires are ongoing.”
Police have also been carrying out door to door enquiries at surround houses and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
