Border City Centurions shine in Warrington sizzler
TEAM . . . nine members of the Border City Centurions American Flag Football team are from the Annan area

WITH a hat-trick of wins on the day in Warrington, the team, which boasts nine of its members from the Annan area, are now guaranteed a positive finishing position for their rookie season. All focus is now fully locked onto possibly even clinching a play-off berth.

Match one was a nail-biter against a youthful and talent packed Lancashire Bombers side. Trailing 19-20 in the final phases of the game it took a remarkable two-point safety from overall Team MVP for the day, Luke Millar to punch into the lead. With the ball back in hand too, the Cents moved on to close the game out in the final two minutes. Final score: Centurions 27-20 Bombers.

Match two saw the Cents carve out a strong lead going into the half of 21-0, the score line uplifted by a stunning interception from Luke Hopper, taking it all the way back up the field for a touchdown and Defensive MVP Barry ‘Bazkat’ Watters notching up his 13th of 20 tackles for the day. Final score: Sting Rays 6-34 Centurions.

Match three was put in the bag thanks to a couple of brilliant touchdowns from Niall Clifford and Jed Richardson, a fourth touchdown too for the day from Dom Lewis. A final touchdown from offensive MVP and captain Alex Thompson. Final score: Centurions 40-0 Chorley.

The Border City Centurions are a Carlisle based Flag American Football Team.

They are affiliated to the British American Football Association and play in the UK’s National Flag Football League Division 1.

Flag is a rapidly growing, high-skill based format of non-contact American Football, embraced by both the NFL and now the International Olympic Committee who have cleared it for immediate inclusion for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

With a senior adult team now established in Carlisle, the junior team is also rapidly developing and a women’s side will be starting up this month.
