Boy named after pole tragedy

A 12-YEAR-OLD boy has died after becoming trapped by a large wooden pole at Kelloholm.

Police Scotland have now named the boy who died at the scene yesterday afternoon as Kieran Esquierdo from Gillenburn Road in the village.

A spokesman said: “At around 4.40 pm on Sunday 15 October 2017, police were made aware that a child had been injured after becoming trapped by a large wooden pole, similar to a telegraph pole, in Glenaylmer Road, Kelloholm, Sanquhar.

“Despite the efforts of paramedics and emergency services the boy, aged 12, died at the scene.”

Addressing the current situation, DI Bryan Lee said: “Investigations are coninuing into this tragedy and the procurator fiscal has been informed.”
