Bridge closed

THERE is travel disruption on the A7 after Longtown’s Esk Bridge was closed in both directions.

A crash on the town’s main bridge saw an arch damaged, with sandstone blocks tumbling into the River Esk below. Drivers were diverted and bus services were disrupted.

Following an inspection earlier today, it has been decided to reopen the bridge to cars and pedestrians tomorrow, Fri, however HGVs will face continued diversions.

In September last year the bridge had to be shut on safety grounds after the road collapsed.
