A POPULAR Lockerbie walk has become a no-go following damage to a bridge.
An emergency closure has been put on the bridge over Dryfe Water, shutting it to pedestrians and cyclists, after the structure was deemed weak and unsafe.
There is speculation locally that the damage was caused after an articulated lorry used the bridge last Saturday.
Some residents are irked at the closure and have taken to social media to share their opinions. One person said: “Disgusting shutting us out from a lovely walking area. The bridge won’t fall down with pedestrians. Those gate blockages are ridiculous.”
Meanwhile, Annandale North Councillor Gail Macgregor has reported the damaged bridge to council officials.
She said: “I understand a large vehicle got stuck on it and caused damage. I can only assume until I get clarity that the emergency closure to all is necessary whilst a full structural survey of the bridge is conducted.”
