Bug hit ward to reopen

A SICKNESS hit hospital ward is expected to reopen later today (Thurs).

Ward 16 at Dumfries Infirmary was shut on Tuesday following an outbreak of norovirus among patients.
However, there have been no new cases reported in the last two days, so health bosses hope to open it again to visitors, transfers and new admisions.
Consultant microbiologist Dr Martin Connor said: “I would like to thank all our staff and visitors for their continued cooperation and support during the outbreak. To have contained this highly contagious virus in one ward is a credit to all staff concerned.
“As always, we would urge anyone experiencing symptoms of sickness and diarrhoea or anyone who has had contact with someone with the symptoms not to visit any hospital setting for at least 48 hours.”
