Building site victim was from Yorkshire

A MAN who died on a building site in Annan last week was from West Yorkshire.

However, the name of the 52-year-old is not going to be released, say police.

He was killed after a mast fell on him while he worked at a housing development at Hallmeadow Place last Thursday morning.

The site has since remained closed.

Contractors Ashleigh (Scotland) confirmed the man’s death and their commercial director Euan Clark said: “We are devastated to confirm a fatality on our Hallmeadow, Annan site.

“The wellbeing of anybody working on our sites is absolutely paramount to us.

“A full investigation will be carried out, and we are working with all of the relevant authorities in this regard.”

And yesterday Mr Clark confirmed the building site was shut last Friday as a mark of respect to the man who died and also to allow shocked staff and operatives to have some time off.

He said the site would remain closed for this week and was expected to reopen on Monday, February 1.
