Burgh road to finally be inspected after concerns

A LOCHMABEN road — which residents claim hasn’t been repaired in nearly four decades — could finally be getting looked at.

At a recent community council meeting, a group of fed-up Church Crescent and Barrashead neighbours had noted that the road was in urgent need of repair. One claimed it hadn’t been repaired since 1976.

The neighbours wrote to the local authority, saying: “The road surface of Church Crescent has not, according to one resident who moved here in 1976, been repaired in all the time she has lived here.

“It is badly potholed; the surface is breaking up and is a hazard to driving.

“Please arrange for an inspection to confirm the dangerous state of the surface and for remedial action to be taken.

“It would be appreciated if we were given advance notice of when such inspection will occur so that a resident may be present.”

And a Dumfries and Galloway Council spokesman has this week confirmed the location had been added to the roads inspection schedule.

Also, a section of the B7020 carriageway has been approved for surfacing from the old Railway Public House to the south side of Marjoriebanks.

The council spokesman added: “We would encourage the public to use the reporting section of our website to log any road defects that has not already been reported to www.dumfriesandgalloway.gov.uk/roads-transport-parking/roads-footpaths-pavements.

“In doing this, you can pinpoint the exact location on a map and our system will automatically generate an inspection request for our technicians.

“All reported defects are categorised and prioritised for repair based on a number of criteria:

  • any potential risk to public safety
  •  the size and depth of the pothole
  • the type, speed, and volume of traffic on the road
  •  the road alignment and visibility
  • the location of the damage”
