Burns school competition goes virtual

A POPULAR contest which celebrates the works and legacy of Robert Burns is going virtual for the first time ever.

This year’s Dumfries and Galloway School Burns competition is being moved online due to covid numbers in the region.

And participants are being asked to upload videos of their performances by the end of February.

Joint convenor Fiona Evans said: “We are devastated to have to cancel the in-person competition, but are passionate about still holding it, albeit in a different way, and showcasing the works of our National Bard and the Scots Language.

“Although the competition will not be in-person, it will be adjudicated according to our usual procedures, with our committee members there to oversee the judging.

“We really hope you understand our decision and we appreciate your continued support of the competition.”

She also revealed that the Robert Burns World Federation has taken the decision to cancel the national competition, so this year’s regional winners and runners-up will not be invited to compete.

Anyone wishing more information about the changes should email Mrs Evans at [email protected].
