A NEW educational bursary fund is now open for bids.
The first payouts from the Solwaybank Windfarm Education and Training Grants Fund will be made to Middlebie and Waterbeck recipients later this year.
And applications are now being invited from over 16s in the two villages. Applicants must be enrolled in a full time or part time course of academic or vocational further education, higher education or training.
The award can be used to contribute towards travel costs, accommodation, equipment or other costs incurred directly as a result of the course of study.
There is currently £2000 available to distribute, but a further £2000 will come from Crossdykes in the near future, giving £4000 available for the first year.
Grants can be up to a maximum of £1000 and can only be made by individuals, not groups. However, the fund is limited so early application is recommended.
The closing date for the first round is March 31 and decisions will be made at the May meeting of Middlebie and Waterbeck Community Council (MWCC).
Group chairman Peter Hands said: “MWCC is delighted to be able to support education and development in our community, for any age group.
“These grants, although not huge, will, we are sure, be of help to anyone looking to expand their skills, for potential employment or community support.”
