Bus crash still under investigation

A POLICE probe into the head on collision of two buses in Lockerbie last week is still ongoing.

Police Scotland confirmed on Wednesday that they are still investigating the circumstances of last week’s crash on Alexandra Drive.

The vehicles, both from Houstons Coaches, collided at about 3.15 pm last Tuesday. They were the 382 Lockerbie to Gretna service and a school contracted bus.

Emergency services attended the scene and the two male drivers, aged 41 and 73 years, were taken by ambulance to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. The 73-year-old man has since been transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Houston’s Coaches released a statement on Friday from owner William Houston. It said: “On Tuesday afternoon two of our drivers were involved in a serious road traffic accident in Lockerbie. Those involved have been our main priority and this will continue to be the case.

“One of the drivers has been released from hospital and is doing well. The second driver remains in hospital, he is stable and doing well. There was a passenger on board one of the buses and he is also ok.

“I would like to personally thank all of those who helped at the scene of the accident, including the members of the public and emergency services.

“Thank you to McCalls Coaches for helping us out to cover some of our contracted runs and to those who contacted the office to check on the drivers involved.
