Bus fire

A BUS travelling between Cumnock and Dumfries caught fire on Wednesday.

Flames were spotted coming from the 246 Stagecoach service by a driver on the roads leading out of New Cumnock.

Stagecoach West Scotland confirmed there were no passengers on board at the time and that the incident was swiftly dealt with.

A spokesman yesterday said: “There was a small engine fire on one of our vehicles operating the 246 service between Cumnock and Dumfries with no passengers on board at the time, the driver was able to deal with the situation quickly and safely.

“The fire service attended as a precaution and the bus returned to our Dumfries depot.”
