Busy Annan road closed to allow building repair work to take place

DUMFRIES and Galloway Council have implemented an emergency road closure in Annan in order to make a dangerous building safe.

Murray Street has been closed off outside of Argyle House (Subway) to allow for repair work to commence on the roof.

A section of lead sheeting blew off a small turret during Storm Darragh and landed on the street below. Police arranged to close the road as a precaution until an assessment could be made during daylight hours.

As a precaution, a section of Murray street and Fish Cross remained partially blocked with traffic barriers last week to keep people and traffic away from the edge of the building.

Some off the lead remaining on the roof is understood to cause no immediate safety risks, however it could be susceptible in another storm.
