DUMFRIES and Galloway MP Alister Jack and his wife Ann took part in a historic service to mark the arrival at Westminster Abbey of the Stone of Destiny.
The mystical object, used in the crowning ceremonies of many ancient Scottish monarchs, was safely transferred from its current display home at Edinburgh Castle to London in time for this weekend’s coronation of King Charles III.
As was the case when his mother was crowned in 1953, the stone will be placed under the coronation throne when King Charles is anointed during Saturday ceremony.
In his role of Secretary of Statefor Scotland, Mr Jack has also officiated at a series of events including a special service at the Church of Scotland at Crown Court, London; a Parliamentary reception at Westminster and the King’s reception for overseas representatives at Buckingham Palace.
As well as the coronation itself, Mr and Mrs Jack will also attend the special celebratory concert planned at Windsor Castle.
