MEMBERS of staff at Caledonia Park in Gretna have become qualified beekeepers in collaboration with Oor Bees.

Their two-month training course covered several topics including an introduction to bees, beekeeping and equipment, how honeybee colonies work, managing hives and extracting honey. Now that the team at Caledonia are qualified, they can look after the park’s three beehives and combined 75,000 bees.

A spokesperson from Caledonia park said: “Bee’s play a huge part in our natural environment, they pollinate the food we need to survive and many of the trees and flowers that provide habitats for wildlife, making them an essential part of nature. Well done team CP.”
