A CAMPAIGNER is calling for Dumfries’ Burns Statue to be scanned.
Donald Gibson, of Torthorwald, is leading a campaign for an “ambitious and expensive” restoration programme to preserve and protect the monument to the Bard for future generations.
He said: “Over the years, a combination of neglect, acid rain, traffic pollution and attack from seagulls, has compromised the marble surface of the monument.
“I accept that it will be some time before any of my plans can be taken forward so in the meantime, I am calling for the statue to be digitally scanned using the latest non-destructive 3D laser imaging technology.”
Mr Gibson believes that this process will provide an accurate record of the monument before it deteriorates further.
