Calling all Richardsons or Romes

AN appeal has been made all the way from Australia to try and find any members of the Richardson or Rome families.

Di Richardson, who lives in Yarrawonga, in Victoria, has been

researching her family links to Dumfries and came across the grave of a former Annan woman: Dianah Richardson-Rome.

She spent time cleaning up the area and has shared photos of the grave in case there are any relations locally.

Di said: “She is buried about 80 kms from me in a small Victorian town called Yackandandah.

“The headstone says: Sacred to the memory of Dianah Richardson Rome, the beloved wife of Matthew Sharp Rome, born at Annan Scotland, died at Yackandandah January 8th 1890, aged 58 years. Also the above Matthew Sharp Rome died 8th May 1906 aged 79 years.

Dianah was daughter of Jacob Richardson and Helen (Moore/Muir).

“I wonder if there are any Richardsons and /Rome families still around Annan? They might like to know their ancestors have been taken care of.”

Di, whose own ancestors were from around Annan and Ruthwell, can be contacted via Facebook and a post on the Annan Open for Business page.
