PLAYER HONOURED . . . billiards star Paul Whelan, of Annan, has been given a Scottish cap for the second year in a row
Paul Whelan competed for his adopted country in the 2015 Home International Snooker and Billiards Championships held in Leeds earlier this month.
Whelan, an employee of Pinneys of Scotland, who helped sponsor his trip, also currently holds the title of Dumfries and Galloway Seniors Snooker Singles Champion and plays out of Annan Ex-Service Club.
Although the three-man team won only one of their six matches in a round robin format which included England (‘A’ and ‘B’), Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland (‘A’ and ‘B’) and Jersey, the Dumfries and Galloway champion did himself and the area proud.
His personal stats of 1205 points for and 1328 points against over his six matches included two wins and a number of very narrow defeats.
