Captain Tara does Scotland proud

ANNANDALE teenager Tara Kane captained Team Scotland to fourth and also finished individually in the prize money in Yorkshire at the Bishop Burton International last week.

It was a rollercoaster ride for the Eastriggs 14-year-old and her Scotland teammates at the British Eventing U18 100 event.

They had some excellent dressage scores but unfortunately suffered some nasty falls in the cross country.

Last to go in the team for the XC was captain Tara. She left the starting line with no fear and was completely focused on her task.

Tara, and horse Anna, completed a beautiful clear XC round over a challenging technical 105cm championship course. There were very few clear rounds out of the 80 competitors and several competitors were eliminated.

Showjumping was the last phase of the week. And with some poles unfortunately already hitting the ground, the pressure was on the captain to perform.

But the Lockerbie Academy pupil was unfazed and continued to complete a beautiful clear round to pull the team up into fourth place.

Emotions were high on the podium for the Scotland team, this was their highest finishing position for a number of years.

Thanks are expressed to coaches Claire Marshall, Shelley Allen, Sue Hendry and Carlene Macnair, everyone else who offered help and all of the sponsors.
