Caravans set on fire

SIX caravans were destroyed after they were set on fire at a property near Kirtlebridge.

Fire crews were called to Blackyett Mains at 11.09 pm on Sunday night, with two engines from Annan attending along with one from Gretna.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 11.09 pm on Sunday to reports of a number of caravans on fire near Kirtlebridge.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances to the scene, where firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene.

“There were no casualties.”

Police were also called out and have launched an enquiry in to the incident.

A force spokesperson said: “No people or animals were injured, but nearby buildings were in danger of being engulfed.

“Anyone with information on who was responsible for setting the fire, contact Lockerbie Police Station or call 101 quoting PDG0073240423.”
