Care home expansion plans emerge

PLANS have been lodged for new assisted living flats at the trouble-hit Singleton Park Care Home.

The agent for land owner Billy Hewitson, of Building Craftsmen Ltd, has submitted proposals to revamp the private Parkgate facility with the addition of 14 flats in a new four-storey block.

The proposed site plan also features an area marked for possible future nursing home extension, as well as parking, a drop-off zone, residents gardens and a courtyard linking the original building with the new.

The documents have been lodged with Dumfries and Galloway Council and can be viewed on their website.

Following a series of shocking inspections, during which serious care concerns were raised, the operators – Singleton Park Ltd- had their registration suspended and the local authority took over management and care for the 33 residents.

NHS Dumfries and Galloway had previously sent in staff to provide care, but as of October 1 the responsibility fell to Dumfries and Galloway Council’s adult services.

However, as the local authority does not run any care homes, it does not have the necessary management structures in place and so another provider is being sought

Building Craftsmen Ltd was approached for comment.
