Carnival crowdfunded launched

A PUBLIC crowdfunding campaign to bring back the Dumfries Carnival next year has begun.

The campaign is seeking £8000 to host the event on 17 January 2026. Organisers say they are determined to reignite the magic to the town’s streets during the darkest months of the year.

Approximately 110 volunteers and 8000 community hours will be needed to successfully put on the event. The campaign says there is a lot that happens behind the scenes that needs to occur for the carnival to be a hit.

“You would be surprised how much the event costs to run, and in some cases we have to pay Dumfries and Galloway Council part of our grant back to cover statutory costs for the event,” said the organisers.

The money raised will go towards creating and supporting labour for 2500 lanterns, hosting six community bands for the parade, acquiring the stage, supporting 35 local businesses, and paying for event safety.

A portion of the funds may also be required to cover statutory costs issued by Dumfries and Galloway Council, including permissions, public liability insurance, and traffic management.

“We think the benefits speak for themselves,” said the campaign leaders. The fundraising page has already raised over £100, with people expressing their support on the page.
