Cash boost chance for community projects

A CASH stash of £120k is now open to medium scale community projects in Moffat - thanks to the town being used as an HGV route in 2015.

SSE Renewables pledged £540k funding in compensation in return for using the tourist town as a HGV route for their Clyde Extension Windfarm.

In April £400k of the funding pot became available, with local groups being given the chance to claim between £10k and £100k for large scale projects.

And now, the second round of funding has been opened, which invites applications of greater than £5000 and up to £10,000 for smaller scale projects which will benefit the residents of Moffat.

The funds will be open to charities, community organisations and other constituted community groups which operate in or will benefit the town of Moffat.

Discussing the opening of the fund, Gareth Shields, SSE’s community investment manager, said: “This second phase of funding targets the wide range of smaller scale projects which can benefit the residents of Moffat. “Where the large fund is targeted towards more transformational projects, this fund is to help those groups who may need a foot-up or assistance withamore discrete project.”

He added: “We are looking forward to the people of Moffat having the opportunity to cast their vote on which projects they think should receive an award.”

A steering group of residents, who have been closely involved in the community plan, will produce a shortlist of projects which will be put to a public vote at Moffat Town Hall on September 17.

Application forms and guidelines can be found online at: www.sse.com/MoffatFund or by contacting [email protected] SSE’s large grant fund is still open withadeadline of July 23.
