Castle Loch fleet sails into winter

AUTUMN may finally be upon us but the sailing season is far from over on Castle Loch, Lochmaben.

Annandale Sailing Club’s eight-race Autumn Series concluded last weekend but it’s straight into the Winter Series and an RYA Scotland training academy weekend for Laser dinghies from all over Scotland is scheduled for October 24 and 25.

The club’s sailing secretary Richard Bryant was the overall winner of the Autumn Series finishing in the top three in every race he sailed and taking the most wins in his full rig Laser.

Competitors dealt with a variety of sailing conditions, from strong winds to barely-there breezes in the course of the series.

Commodore Stewart Mitchell put up a solid fight for top honours, notching up a couple of winds and staying close to Richard’s tail, while Alan Sharples finished in a very creditable third place.

The Beveridge Jug Regatta on September 27 saw a small race fleet but close competition with a different winner for each of the regatta’s three races.

The final overall winner was Past Commodore Tony Bamforth in his RS Vareo who finished just one point ahead of Richard Bryant. www.annansail.co.uk
