TWO Cross Shorthorn cattle have been taken from a field near Castle Douglas.

The beasts, valued at around £1000 each, disappeared from land at Trowdale Farm, Bridge of Urr, over the weekend.

Constable Tommy Patterson said: “Checks have been made around neighbouring fields and with local farmers and at this stage we are treating this as a theft as opposed to the cattle having strayed.

“I am appealing to other farmers in the area to come forward if they have had any similar occurrences recently which they may not have reported to the police.

“Likewise, I would ask anyone who may have any information which might assist in this enquiry to get in touch with us through the 101 number, quoting the reference PDG 0098050519.”
