LOCHMABEN is set to come alive with a celebration of community spirit on Saturday.

Day of the Region comes to the royal burgh, and many of the groups based in the town have prepared entertainment for all.

The 2016 event will be launched at 10 am at Castle Loch, when an effigy of Mary Queen of Scots will sail across the loch while the story of Lochmaben and Castle Loch’s royal connections is shared.

A performance tent is to be erected at Victory Park as a hub for the community groups.

Between 11 am and 11.30 am Lochmaben Pipe Band, with special guests of Dumfries Pipe Band, will showcase their talents.

And bringing an acoustic sound will be the local Ukelele Club from 12 noon to 12.30 pm.

A display of Highland dancing will be given by Symar Dance Academy under the careful instruction of teacher Kelly Callander from 1 pm to 1.30 pm.

The park will also host a range of stalls from the burgh’s groups, including: Lochmaben Men’s Shed, MS Awareness, Lochmaben and District Community Initiative and Bat Awareness.

There will also be a chance to get active with Annandale Sailing Club offering free sailing, Lochmaben Tennis Club having sessions, ball machine and pickleball and Lochmaben Shooting Supplies offering target shooting all between 11 am and 3 pm.

In the afternoon a guided walk around the loch will be held, finishing at Lochside Cottage.

Meanwhile, Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes will also be giving first aid demonstrations and a defibrillator trial.
