FILL your summer with free ‘Coastal Woodland Adventures’.
An exciting and fun programme of events is planned for the school holidays, based in woodlands along the Solway Coast.
Made up of 30 events in total, the sessions aim to give young people the ability to enjoy and better understand coastal woodlands.
Delivered by qualified outdoor event leaders, activities will vary from bushcraft and survival skills through to tree id and bug hunts.
There will also be exploration, bird watching, pond dipping, foraging and den building. Mornings will be for under eights, and afternoons for big kids, aged eight to 12.
They will take place at Aldouran Wetland Garden, Leswalt on July 7-9; then at Castle Woods, Caerlaverock from July 14-16; next is Galloway House Gardens at Garlieston on July 21-23; Barhill Wood, Kirkcudbright is July 28-30; and finally it’s Kilsture Forest, Kirkinner, August 4-6.
Transport options will be available and the organisers are aiming to make them accessible to as many young people as possible.
It’s part of the Solway Coast and Marine Landscape Connections Project, with funding secured through the Dumfries and Galloway Coastal Benefit Fund and the support of several landowners.
Ranger Toni Lamont will be leading the programme and said: “ I’m especially passionate about creating fun, engaging, and memorable experiences for children, helping them to explore, learn, and grow through hands-on activities in nature.
“I look forward to welcoming families and children of all ages to share in this celebration of our region’s remarkable landscapes and wildlife.”
