DISASTER will strike in Dalry next week, as the town prepares for a mock resilience test event.
The staged event on Wednesday March 5 will see a mock emergency scenario take place in order to test out the response from community groups as well as the town’s resilience plan.
Organised by Loch Ken Trust, Dumfries and Galloway Climate Hub, and Dalry Community Council Resilience Team, the event will take place from 11 am-12 pm on the Throughgate in St John’s Town of Dalry.
Emergency Services will be in attendance to help bring the scenario to life.
Residents should expect some chaos during the event but are being encouraged to go along and observe, head ranger at Loch Ken Leane Pumpr said: “The aim of the test event is to send the message to communities to make sure they have robust resilience plans in place and know what to do in an extreme weather event. With the increase in storms, it is important that communities know how they can support themselves until wider support arrives.
“We would encourage any resilience teams and members of the community to come along to watch the event.
Jenna Cains from the Dumfries and Galloway Climate Hub added: “We strongly encourage all communities in D&G to have up to date resilience plans to help mitigate the impacts of severe weather events. As our climate changes, the likelihood of stronger storms will increase, and it is crucial that communities can manage the impacts and bounce back quickly.”
