SOUTH of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) has provided an update on its plans to create an energy transition zone on a site adjacent to Chapelcross.
SOSE bought the 6.5 hectare site near Annan in November and is now creating serviced plots on the land, with the aim of generating jobs and inward investment which is focussed on the transition to green energy production.
Surveys and assessments of the site were completed in the spring, with utility connections currently being installed.
Planning permission is then required before road access and site servicing is installed, with the first businesses expected to be on the site in 2025/26.
A SOSE spokesperson said: “The site offers excellent road and rail transport links and as a result SOSE has already had significant interest from businesses from outwith the south keen to move into the region.
“SOSE’s Chapelcross Energy Transition Zone kickstarts the development of the main Chapelcross site, which is being taken forward by a variety of partners.
“As part of SOSE’s works at its energy transition zone, access to some parts of the site will be restricted to allow utility connections to be completed. This will take place after the Annan Riding of the Marches in early July.”
