Charity thanks pupils for awareness

PUPILS at Moffat Academy have received a special thank you from charity Spike Aware UK for their continuing support.

Before the Easter holidays a group of students picked Spike Aware UK as their chosen charity for their Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) project.

YPI is the biggest independent initiative being delivered in Scottish education, with each participating school responsible for directing a grant of £3000 to a local charity championed by its students. Over the course of a week, pupils worked in groups to create a business case which outlined why their chosen charity was worthy of winning the cash.

Although the Moffat group didn’t ultimately take home the prize, the charity’s co-founder, Colin Cones, has expressed his gratitude for their efforts. He said: “Spike Aware UK would like to thank the pupils of Moffat Academy that selected us for their YPI project. They may not have won the top prize but were certainly winners in our eyes. Well done girls.

“We’d also like to thank pupils from S3 that raised a fantastic £95.20 at a recent event, that they took part in. Thank you all so much and it’s greatly appreciated.”
