Christmas wedding upset for couple

A LOCKERBIE couple who were all set for a romantic Christmas wedding are feeling ‘heartbroken’ after having to cancel it last minute as the new Omicron variant spreads rapidly.

Debbie O’Kane, 41, who had been due to marry her fiance David Sibley, 43, on Saturday 18th told the paper: “With this new variant arriving and Nicola Sturgeon’s speech, people began to get a bit stressed and worried about attending the wedding, so we began having a few people cancel and we didn’t want to get married without them.

“We were going to and still will get married at the Sure Hotel in Lockerbie. Glen Wright who owns it has been great, letting us postpone and not lose any money.

“All the other people I had arranged, like for flowers, make up, hair, photographer and the Wedding Room Dumfries have all been fantastic, they are all willing just to rebook us when we pick another date.

“I do feel that for people who have been isolating for a long time this is the best solution, but were absolutely devastated as we have waited nine years for this wedding to go ahead.

“And now so close we had to postpone – it’s heartbreaking, and we just hope the rules losen up again soon so we can carry on with our plans.”
