City station vision unveiled

A MAJOR project to redevelop the area of land around Carlisle station could be approved at a meeting in the city next week.

Cumberland Council has applied for full planning permission for the development on land at the Citadel Railway Station and Collier Lane, Court Square.

The scheme will involve what are described as public realm enhancements, a reconfiguration of the highway, pedestrianisation of the square, as well as improved car park access, and the relocation of Lawson’s Monument – see design above.

The scheme also involves a new station car park in George Square, allowing the front of the station to be more enhanced, with vehicle access to the entrance strictly controlled.
