ANNAN Town Band added more silverware to the trophy cabinet last weekend with another competition success.
The band travelled to the Fife Charities Brass Band Association contest in Kirkcaldy on Saturday to compete alongside top bands from across Scotland and northern England.
And in addition to winning the trophy for best second section band, Annan were placed fifth in the overall open competition thanks to a stunning performance.
Band manager Dale Simmons said: “We’re currently competing in the second section and the aim is always to try and win your section, so it’s fantastic to accomplish that goal.
“In the final overall result we were placed above six bands who are ranked higher than us, which is more than we could ever have dreamed of in years gone by.
“We are all absolutely delighted with the result, which really is a testament to the hard work and talent of our band members”
The Fife contest is one of the few where brass bands from across all grades, from the Championship down to Section 4, compete against each other, with the chance to challenge higher ranked bands.
Annan were targeting a place just inside the overall top ten based on their current ranking, so their fifth place finish exceeded expectations.
He continued: “The adjudicators sit in a closed box so they can’t see who is performing, they don’t know what section we are. They can only judge based on what they hear and their comments were really positive and constructive.
“Our musical director Lewis Wilkinson chose our programme of music because he wanted to prove to the band that we are all capable of playing some of the most difficult music, and we certainly rose to the task.
“It’s probably one of our best ever performances, and this will give the band a real confidence boost as we begin preparations for future competitions.”
The band would like to thank the Holywood Trust and band patrons for their help and support in getting ready for this event.
