THE Royal British Legion Scotland will host its annual conference in Dumfries and Galloway this year, it has been revealed.
The organisation, which supports armed forces veterans and their families, staged last year’s event in Perth but has opted for this region in May 2024.
Annandale East and Eskdale Councillor Archie Dryburgh, who has been Dumfries and Galloway’s armed forces champion for the past 12 years, shared the news at the last full council meeting.
He also presented his annual report for 2022/23 to fellow councillors at the council headquarters in Dumfries.
Councillor Dryburgh said: “We have become the place to be for all our forces charities, and they’ve shown this by asking us to have the Legion Scotland Conference in Dumfries and Galloway.
“And our armed forces champions, with all the public sector organisations, have been invited along with the Veterans Minister to hold a champions’ seminar in Dumfries and Galloway in the next year.
“Things to look forward to in next year’s report.”
